Newsflash: Men like to be represented just like women do. It’s harder for me to self-insert as a character if they’re female.

Hey rotatingfloor I’m a woman and honestly? No, I wouldn’t want to self-insert as a male.
Am I misandrist or

"Men like to be represented like women do"Haha what? You know that studios are actively encouraged or told to diminish women’s roles in video games by publishers, right?Men as a whole are represented in games just fine, so unless you’re specifically talking about a non-dark haired, white, straight, cis, hetero, overly masculine men, which is a definite, real problem being addressed by very few, you’re wrong to say men are not represented in games. Men may not be playable in this game with this weapon type, but that doesn’t mean they are not playable in the game. In fact, the comment implies otherwise.
That said although I prefer to play as female characters it doesn’t rip my soul in two to play as a man in games, and I remember as a kid I frequently switched between the boy and girl leads of the game Catz between playthroughs (I was 10 and I only had two games. Sue me.) because I preferred the aesthetic option the boy got. On the other hand, calling Ness by my name in Earthbound and seeing sentences like “Moira rode his bike!” is pretty odd.
Oh yeah, and any idiot could have written that comment. Sarkeesian herself could have. It doesn’t count as evidence of anything unless there’s a bunch of comments agreeing with them.

I really don’t get the “I NEED THE PROTAGONIST TO BE MY GENDER” on either side and maybe that’s just cause of “male privilege”. I can understand a preference to have your gender but not being unable to connect with a character just based on gender. Admittedly given a choice, I tend to picks female characters, can’t really say why though. Generally I just prefer women to men (internalized misandry lol).
Like Dangan Ronpa 2 for example. Hajime is an extremely bland character (with reasons though) so I totally could not connect with him. Instead I connected with Chiaki, the always tired gamer. It’s all about personality imo.
